Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to find out and you are willing to try to scuba dive for the first time, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving will let you try scuba to see if you like it. While not an actual scuba certification, during the Discover Scuba Diving Cozumel experience you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.
The program include orientation, pool or confined water practice and 1 or 2 open water dives. It allows you to try diving in a safe and controlled environment under the supervision of a PADI dive professional, and it can be taken in a swimming pool or in open water. The Discover Scuba Diving experience will place you very near to your PADI Open Water Diver certification.
At the beginning of the program you will go through some basic knowledge development and then it’s in to the water to perform a few basic skills with the dive equipment. Having completed the Discover Scuba Cozumel with us, you can schedule further fun dive trips with our experienced Dive Leaders. We hold small size classes to ensure your first diving experience is a great one to remember. The biggest challenge instructors have with the Discover Scuba Diving program is not coaxing participants into the water, but coaxing them out when the program is over.
Most of the fee (but boat dive) can be applied to our PADI certification course if, like most, you find that once is not enough.
What you learn
You learn the basics you need to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. One thing you’ll learn is that you really can breathe underwater and whether you like doing that or not. You will:
- Take the plunge with PADI
- Learn what wearing scuba equipment feels like and how easy it is to move around underwater while wearing it
- Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater and learn whether you can be comfortable there
- Learn some basic skills and safety rules that will carry over to your full scuba certification course when you take the next step
If you’ve tried diving through a Discover Scuba Diving experience or resort course, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of the PADI Scuba Diver or the full PADI Open Water Diver course certification.
At the end of the course there is a participation certificate.
You need to bring swimwear and towel for the session and a smile. Divemaster Academy provides all diving equipment for this course.
Prerequisites and limitations for Discover Scuba Diving
To enroll in the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program, you must be 10 years or older in general good health and must be able to swim 200m (at your own pace). As the PADI DSD Program is not a real course, you are not having any diver level certification. Once you complete a Discover Scuba Diving program, you’ll want to check out our Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver certification courses.
